Carol Mudford is a shearer, registered nurse and the Founder & CEO of sHedway, based in Dubbo, NSW. Raised on a sheep and cropping farm north of Dubbo, her family's farming story spans six generations (and counting). After a varied career that took her from performing arts and outdoor education to hospitality and six years nursing in the Northern Territory, Carol returned home in 2020. She planned to spend "a few weeks" in the shearing sheds for fun—six years later she’s still here and leading sHedway, championing the people, stories and future of rural Australia. When she's not on the road, she's home in Dubbo with her trusty dog, Dusty.

Coreene Horenko has worked in suicide prevention for over two decades both in Australia and internationally with Lifeline. 

Meeting Carol in April 2024 and hearing of her vision for the shearing community, Coreene pledged her support to the development of sHedway. 

Working with sHedway combines her professional skills and not for profit Board experience. 

Coreene’s passion for increasing awareness and access to mental health services in rural and remote communities is founded in her family’s sheep farming heritage.

Taya hails from the Snowy Monaro of NSW and as a wool classer, shearer’s cook and shearer who lives with her partner Riley on the family’s merino sheep farm, she understands the industry from the inside out. Taya also competes in shearing and wool handling and has represented NSW in Senior Wool Handling at Nationals 2025. With extensive committee experience in her local clubs and services, Taya’s support has been integral to sHedway’s foundations. Taya and Riley are also our Snowy Monaro Champions. 

Sarah Trebley was an early supporter of sHedway and officially commenced as Secretary in June 2025. Growing up on her family's Merino sheep property, Sarah developed a strong connection to the sheep industry from an early age, often helping during shearing if conveniently timed during school holidays or before and after school. She continues to work alongside her family at Parkdale SRS® Merinos while also working at a veterinary clinic in Dubbo. Sarah has been a valued addition to the sHedway team, supporting a wide range of administrative functions and bringing practical industry knowledge to the organisation. Sarah wears two hats for sHedway, also taking on Project Assistant for our activities in the Dubbo region for 2026-2028. 

From growing up on family farms in Victoria’s Western District to becoming a qualified Wool Classer, Raelene Laidlaw's career has taken her working and living across the eastern states of Australia and deep into the heart of the shearing industry. She is passionate about the wool community and proud to have spent 14 years training future Wool Classers and facilitating shearing and wool‑handling schools to support the next generation of shed staff. Her work has taken her overseas to promote the Australian wool industry, and she's been honoured to serve as an Australian Wool Handling Judge at a World Championship and at events in New Zealand. Raelene's excited to join the sHedway team and continue supporting shearing shed staff by building awareness, confidence, and practical skills to help them be their best—both at work and at home.
