With the grit of a shearer and the care of a nurse, sHedway is led by Founder and CEO Carol Mudford. 

In November 2023, Carol went from shearing full-time to mental health nursing in a rural suicide prevention program — in the same month the shearing industry lost three shearers to suicide.

With one foot in the shearing sheds and the other in mental health care, Carol started reaching out to people in the shearing sheds with the idea that 'someone should do something'. With overwhelming support she kicked off sHedway as a simple Facebook page in Dec 2023.

From there, we’ve grown into a national team of sHedway Representatives and have become the voice for mental health in the shearing industry. 

Today, we’re a registered health promotion charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission - built by shed people, for shed people - and running events and workshops across Australia.
